Form 1 Output

Older versions of JAWS only read text enclosed in the <label> or form element tags when in Forms Mode. The additional instructions are ignored.

Expected output of Form 1 using JAWS:

Forms mode on
User name: edit, type in text.
Password: edit.
Submit Form 1 button, to activate press space bar.

For the user to hear the instructions, she must toggle Forms Mode off and then navigate back up the page (using the arrow keys or hot keys). Then, she must navigate back to the edit box, turn Forms Mode back on and input the appropriate information.

Questions

  1. Do newer versions of JAWS still ignore text outside of <label>?
  2. What about other screen readers?
