Common Abbreviations
"I have made this [letter] longer than usual, only because I have not had the time to make it shorter." (Blaise Pascal)
Commonly used phrases are often shortened, in emails, to the initial letters of each word in the phrase. For example:
"By the way...."
becomes
"btw..."
There are many abbreviations on the Internet - far too many to list here. Some are purely technically related whilst others are more general. If you come across an abbreviation that you cannot understand, try typing define: followed by the abbreviation into the search box at Google.
