I love log cabin and mitred squares worked up in different coloured blocks. And I’ve admired the Quilt Wrap for a while. The only problem was that the original pattern called for Rowan Kidsilk Haze — which I hate. It’s really expensive, horrible to knit with and itches like crazy. But then I noticed that a couple of people had knitted the wrap using 8ply\/double knit yarn, so thought — why not?<\/p>\n

Gathered up all the bits left over from the Granny Afghan, threw in a couple more scraps from my stash and so the Double Knit Quilt Wrap was born.<\/p>\n

Unlike the original Rowan version, the DK had a distinct right side and wrong side. And the how to weave in ends whilst knitting<\/a> technique doesn’t really work with yarn this thick (it tends to make the rows too bulky — although I’ve used a similar technique quite successfully with knitted socks). However, if you stop and weave in the ends when you finish each block, it doesn’t seem so tedious (and this is from someone who hates the “end weaving in”).<\/p>\n

Really fun to knit and it’s lovely so see how the blocks work together as you knit. Definitely one of my favourite projects this year. And I’m sure it will come in very useful as a super-warm scarf in winter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
