Bought an iPad 3 from Apple about 2 weeks ago (it was the free engraving from Apple that swung it in terms of a supplier). Needless to say, within a few days I was looking through my stash looking for some suitable yarn to make a cover. I decided that a crocheted cover would be better than a knitted one as it would be slightly thicker and, therefore, more protective.<\/p>\n

Materials<\/h3>\n

Less than 100g DK or worsted yarn
\n4mm crochet hook
\n2 buttons<\/p>\n

Cover Body<\/h3>\n

Chain 27
\nRow 1:<\/strong> sc into the second stitch from the hook, sc to end working a further 2 sc into the last stitch. DO NOT TURN. Instead sc along the back of the chain — working 2sc into the first stitch at the other end. Slip stitch into first sc to join. (56 stitches)
\nRow 2:<\/strong> Chain 1, sc all the way around, slip stitch into first sc.<\/p>\n

Repeat Row 2 until the case is large enough to fit your iPad.<\/p>\n

Flap<\/h3>\n

Row 1:<\/strong> sc into first 28 stitches.
\nRow 2:<\/strong> chain 1, turn, sc into second stitch, sc across to end, putting an sc dec in last two stitches.
\nRepeat Row 2 6 times.<\/p>\n

Buttonholes<\/h3>\n

Row 1:<\/strong> Chain 1, turn, sc into first 3 stitches stitch, chain 2, skip 2 stitches, sc across to the last 5 stitches, chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, sc to end.
\nRow 2:<\/strong> DO NOT TURN. Slip st to end of flap, turn and sc along the flap edge — including the buttonhole chains.<\/p>\n

Finishing<\/h3>\n

Break yarn and weave in the ends.
\nAdd buttons.<\/p>\n

At this point, I decided to line my case body with soft cotton — slip stitching the lining to the case body whilst the iPad was inside to ensure a good fit.<\/p>\n
