Dropstitch Scarf
What do you do with a couple of odd balls of Sirdar Medici?
In my case, it seemed to me that the yarn would make for a nice, loose and relatively unstructured, scarf. Since I wanted the final scarf to be as loose as possible, I opted for a dropstitch pattern that my mother taught me when I was about 12 and wanted to knit a 6 foot scarf inside a week!
She called it “French Knitting
“. I just called it “Really, Really, Fast Knitting
“.
So as well as giving me the looseness I wanted, this dropstitch also had the benefit of knitting up very quickly as every 4th row increased the length by the equivalent of 3 rows!.
Materials
- 100gms DK/worsted yarn (example shown used 100gms Sirdar Medici)
- 5mm needles
Gauge: Not important.
Dropstitch Pattern:
Row 1: Work each stitch as a normal knit stitch but wrap the yarn around the right-hand needle 3 times instead of once. Draw all 3 loops onto the right-hand needle and then drop the stitch off the left hand needles as per usual.
Row 2: Knit into the first of the three loops on the left-hand needle then push all three loops off the left hand needle.
Directions
Cast on 26 stitches
Row 1 – 3: Knit
Row 4 – 5: Work both rows of the Dropstitch Pattern
Row 6- 7: Knit
Repeat rows 4 – 7 until you reach your desired length.
Knit 3 rows
Bind off.
Thankyou. The dropstitch scarf is exactly what I was looking for – something simple to compliment the yarn. I was reminded it was sitting in my stash chest when I saw some odd skeins being sold off at LYS. Might even be tempted to pick up other colourways and knit a few for friends… You are an angel
