Rain, Rain, Go Away
It’s hard to believe that it’s June here. It looks (and feels) more like November! Apart from a few sunny days last week (well before the extended Bank Holiday, of course), it’s done nothing but rain for the past few months. So all I can really do is look at the garden from a window rather than actually spending any time in it. Fortunately, the plants seem to be enjoying the constant wet weather and are doing quite well (albeit looking a little bedraggled at times).
Meanwhile, I spotted up seed pots on clearance at Tesco two weeks ago. 24p instead of 74p each. Well, I could hardly pass them by, now could I? So I now have coriander, tomato and sweet pea seedlings growing on the window ledge of my bedroom. They’re now a couple of inches high and about ready for transplanting and hardening off — if only the rain would stop for a while. I’ve not grown tomatoes in pots before. In grow bags, yes — and they did quite well, if I say so myself. But I don’t think I have room for a grow bag this year.
I also planted some sunflower seeds a few weeks ago (to replace the seedlings that the snails destroyed) and some borage (after reading that it attracts bees). The borage seedlings are doing great. Not so sure about the sunflowers as they were planted around the corner with some established wild flowers, so I can’t see them from the windows.
Oh, for some sun for a few days!
