Wide Cabled Headband
If it’s a really cold day, you might want something a little wider than the original cabled headband. This pattern creates three cable — two thin outer cables and a thicker inner cable.
Finished width: 5 inches
Materials:
- Approx 75gms DK yarn (2 strands used throughout)
- 5mm straight needles
Cable Patterns
C4F
- Pick up the next 4 stitches using a cable needle and hold at the front of the work.
- Knit the next 4 stitches on the left hand needle.
- Knit the 4 stitches on the cable needle.
C2B
- Pick up the next 2 stitches using a cable needle and hold at the back of the work.
- Knit the next 2 stitches on the left hand needle.
- Knit the 2 stitches on the cable needle.
Directions:
CO 10st
Work 18 rows in (k1, p1) rib inc 1 st at each end of 1st and every alternate row (28st)
Row 1: kl, p1, C2B, p1, k2, p1, C4F, p1, k2, p1, C2B, p1, k1
Row 2: k2, p4, k1, p2, k1, p8, k1, p2, k1, p4, k2
Row 3: k1, p1, k4, p1, k2, p1, k8, p1, k2, p1, k4, p1, k1
Row 4: As Row 2
Row 5: As Row 3
Row 6: As Row 2
Row 7: kl, p1, C2B, p1, k2, p1, k8, p1, k2, p1, C2B, p1, k1
Row: 8: As Row 2
Row 9: As Row 3
Row 10: As Row 2
Row 11: As Row 3
Row 12: As Row 2
Repeat rows 1-12 until band measures 3ins less than required when slightly stretched.
Work 11 rows (k1, p1) rib dec 1 st at each end of 1st and every alternate row (16st)
Buttonhole:
Row 12: Work 7sts, BO 2st, work 7st.
Row 13: Dec 1, work 5st, CO 2st, work to end (14st).
Work 5 rows (k1, p1) rib dec 1 st at each end of 2nd row and 4th row (10st)
BO all stitches.
Finishing:
Weave in ends
Attach button to other end of band.
This is my favorite go-to pattern for headbands. I love how it tapers on the ends and a button to adjust for different head sizes. Thank you so much for this pattern. I have made this pattern is many different colors and yarn types for my daughter and myself.
