Apple Blossom Shrug

Cotton Apple Bossom Shrug Having crocheted an Apple Blossom wrap and an Apple Blossom scarf, it occurred to me that this pattern might make a rather nice shrug — with the trellis forming the back & upper arms and the lace for the sleeves.

I tried it out using some 4ply cotton & another in double knit bamboo yarn and it worked beautifully. So here’s the pattern I used (should fit a 36″ chest):

Materials

350 – 400 yards of yarn
Appropriate crochet hook

Note: I used a 5mm hook with the 4ply and a 5.5mm with the DK bamboo but my gauge is rather tight. If your gauge is loose, you may want to go down a hook size.

The Trellis & Lace patterns can be found in the original Apple Blossom Stole pattern.

Directions

Measure the circumference of your upper arm & add 1 inch. This will be the width of the final piece (X).
Foundation row: chain a multiple of 8 sts so that the final chain equals (or is slightly longer than) X.

Work the Trellis pattern for 12 inches
Work 2 – 6 repeats of the Lace pattern. The more repeats you work, the longer the final sleeves.

Rejoin the yarn to the foundation chain and work the Trellis & Lace patterns to match the first side.

Finishing Off

Fold the completed piece in half lengthways.
Seam the Lace sections from the ends to the Trellis section on both sides.

Enjoy!
