More Socks
K has has a sudden growth spurt, so a few of the socks that I’d made for him previously no longer fitted. So there was a mad dash to get some sock yarn and make him a new pair (with growing room) for winter. Especially as he doesn’t like wearing slippers and much prefers to wander round the house in stocking feet. These were made using King Cole’s Zigzag sock yarn. Branching Out
A little while ago, I managed to pick up 3 skeins of absolutely gorgeous Rowan Kaffe Fassett Kid Silk yarn in ivory on eBay. After a fair bit of research, I decided to make a Branching Out Scarf. Although the pattern looked a bit complex at first glance, it was a pure pleasure to knit up. Long Fingerless Gloves
I love fingerless gloves! Not only are they really practical when shopping but I just like the look of them. These Spirogyra gloves are a little different because they’re so long — finishing just below the elbow. I found them really easy to knit up and the final fit was perfect. I can easily see myself making another pair of these.
Crocheted Fingerless Gloves
These Openwork Handwarmers to less than 2 hours to complete. Although they don’t look much when not being worn, they actually include some clever simple shaping — which means that they fit really nicely and don’t look at all shapeless when worn. I was so taken with them that I bought some James C. Brett Pure Merino in cherry red and made another two pairs for Christmas presents. Each pair only takes about 35gms of double knit yarn, so they make ideal last minute presents. All I have to do now is decide what to make with the remaining 80gms…
Winter Mittens
Fluffy Cuff Mittens knitted in the round using 1 strand of dark red and 1 strand of mid-pink double knit yarn for the glove body and a multi-coloured eyelash yarn for the cuff. I like the fact that the finished mittens are quite long, so you can wear them with the cuff turned up or down. Took about 6 hours to complete.
Seraphina’s Shawl: Quick Reference
I managed to get hold of 500gms of Debbie Bliss Stella in Chocolate (Shade 005) the other week and decided to make Seraphina’s Shawl. Not long after I started, I realised that there were a few omissions in the pattern instruction – mainly missing ch1 before, and after, each shell-in-shell and a missing V-stitch at the end of each row. But they were pretty easy to sort out. I completed the first 14 rows in one sitting and settled down to the 4-row repeat part of the pattern. Eyelash Bag
I was recently given 500grams of eyelash yarn and as, I wasn’t sure what to do with it, I knitted up a small swatch in the hopes that the yarn itself would give me some ideas. In the end, it decided it wanted to be a bag. I’ve always wanted to try out the Unbiased bag pattern, so I thought I’d give it a whirl using this yarn. Winter Socks
When it gets really cold, I love being able to slouch around the house wearing really thick winter socks. Given that my current pair were looking slightly worse for wear after last winter, I decided to treat myself to a new pair. I got hold of 100gms of beautifully soft, hand-dyed merino wool on Ebay and set to using a Sock Generator pattern. The wool was almost aran weight, so I ended up using the entire 100gms but I’m sure that I’ll appreciate the extra warmth in December/January. And they are beautifully soft and comfortable.
