Another Day… Another Scarf

  • November 27, 2011 3:25 pm

Finished the Branching Out scarf last night. Unblocked length: 68 inches. It’s now drying but I’ve opted for a very light blocking as I want it to drape nicely. In a bid to continue de-stashing, I’m now starting A Grey Loop using the leftover Bamboozle yarn from the Aria camisole I made earlier this year.

Branching Out — Halfway

  • November 18, 2011 6:07 pm

The Branching Out scarf is about halfway through and I’m really pleased with the way it’s going. Looks like the final scarf will have a really nice drape to it. As I only had 90gms of yarn to star6 with (which, given that it’s cotton, isn’t a lot of yardage), I’ll be happy if I end up with a scarf over 48 inches long. Not sure how much I will block the final scarf. I know that many lace items are blocked to within a inch of their lives but, as this is double knit and I want to keep…

Marble Chunky

  • September 14, 2009 12:17 pm

I’ve always liked the look of James Brett’s Marble Chunky. The colourways are absolutely gorgeous. So when K asked if he could have a new winter sweater, I took him down to my LYS (which is anything but local) and asked him to chose a colour. Surprisingly, he opted for a red/pink/orange colourway. I added 100gms of plain black to the 2 skeins of Marble (200gms each) and we had enough for a kid’s shirt-collar sweater. Having completed the sweater, I still had more than 100gms left of the Marble. So I also made a Quant (my favourite hat/headband) and…

Openwork Crochet Scarf

  • August 14, 2009 2:15 pm

I had a single skein of Wild Fire Fibres Bambino (Purple Lotus) and was looking for something fairly simple that would show this lovely, drapey, yarn off. After some false starts, I settled on an openwork scarf with borders at each end based on Doris Chan’s All Shawl Strawberry Lace. Materials 400 yards soft 4ply yarn 5mm crochet hook Scarf Body Foundation: Ch 54st. Row 1: Skip next 8st, sc, * ch5, skip next 4st, sc **; repeat from * to **, turn (9 loops + 1 half loop) Row 2: Ch5, skip next 2 chains in the loop, sc…

Branching Out

  • December 21, 2008 11:06 pm

A little while ago, I managed to pick up 3 skeins of absolutely gorgeous Rowan Kaffe Fassett Kid Silk yarn in ivory on eBay. After a fair bit of research, I decided to make a Branching Out Scarf. Although the pattern looked a bit complex at first glance, it was a pure pleasure to knit up. And the finished scarf is currently my absolute favourite — which is why it looks a little crumpled in the photo. Once it was blocked, I wanted to wear it — not photograph it. So the photo was taken about 6 weeks after it…

Quick Catch Up

  • December 11, 2008 11:04 pm

Haven’t posted anything for ages – primarily because I’ve been spending most of my spare time knitting or crocheting. In the past 6 weeks or so, I’ve completed: A pair of Spirogyra fingerless gloves The Branching Out scarf using 3 skeins of absolutely gorgeous Rowan Kaffe Fassett Kid Silk yarn in ivory that I picked up on eBay. 3 pairs of Crochet Openwork Handwarmers (having made a pair for myself in under 2 hours, I promptly made 2 more pairs for Xmas presents) 1 pair of new socks for K – he’s started growing! A pair of Fluffy Cuff Mittens…

Rowan Kidsilk Haze

  • September 28, 2008 7:35 pm

I’d heard so much about this yarn that I decided I had to use it to knit another Wisp. People were describing it as “gorgeous“, “addictive” and “crack silk haze“.

So I bought two skeins (shade Wicked – black) and, last week, sat down to begin work.

Dropstitch Scarf

  • September 21, 2008 9:37 pm

What do you do with a couple of odd balls of Sirdar Medici? In my case, it seemed to me that the yarn would make for a nice, loose and relatively unstructured, scarf. Since I wanted the final scarf to be as loose as possible, I opted for a dropstitch pattern that my mother taught me when I was about 12 and wanted to knit a 6 foot scarf inside a week! She called it “French Knitting“. I just called it “Really, Really, Fast Knitting“. So as well as giving me the looseness I wanted, this dropstitch also had the…

Blur Cowl

  • September 21, 2008 4:37 pm

My version of the Dolores Park Cowl made using 2 x 50 gram skeins of Sirdar Blur which have been hanging around in my stash for months. I used two strands throughout. I think the colourways were “Inca” and “Desire” which look absolutely fabulous together. I ended up abandoning the circulars recommend by the pattern and switched to straight needles as the smallest circulars I had were 22 inches and, at a gauge of 3sts per inch, 60 sts works out to only 20 inches! I can’t figure out why no one else seems to have had a problem with…
