Something, nothing and everything…

And Yet More Candles

Bought some new zinc-cored wick the other day as I’m fed up with having to soak wicks in melted beeswax before I can use it with beeswax tealights or votives. Seeing it on the site where I normally buy all of my beeswax and wick, I thought I’d found my holy grail and I ordered 5 metres of the appropriate size.

When it arrived a few days later, I began to have doubts. It looked way too thin for a 1.5 to 1.27 inch wide candle but I figured I’d try it anyway. Good job I only tried a single tealight. The wick is too small…

I’m going to have one last try and buy the thickest zinc cored wick they have (suitable for 2.5 – 3 inch candle) in the hopes that the sizes they quote are based on paraffin wax. In the meantime, I have almost 5 meters of wick to add to my mounting stockpile of ‘wicks wot I have tried’.

On the plus side, I did also manage to make two beautiful chunk candles today – one small rectangular and the other a standard cylinder 1.5 inches wide x 8inches tall. It’s just a shame that I seem to be the only person who appreciates them. R’s response on being proudly shown these two new specimens was distinctly underwhelming
