How the hell…

… do you manage to catch flu twice in 6 weeks?

Frankly, the timing couldn’t have been worse. R left for a 10-day (work related) visit to the US last Monday afternoon. 36 hours later, I developed a tickly cough. By the end of the day, it was pretty obvious that I had The Flu II.

The Dreaded Lurgy

  • February 4, 2013 2:00 am

It’s been a pretty rough 8 or 9 days here. First K developed a tickly cough followed — 48 hours later — by a temperature and nausea. By this time, I had a thundering headache which simply refused to go away. That’s when it dawned on me that we both might have flu!

Re-discovering Radio

  • July 8, 2012 12:24 pm

I’m becoming a big fan of BBC Radio 4 Extra — although why they renamed it from Radio 7, I don’t know. Every Saturday morning whilst drinking my first cup of coffee, I browse through all of the available comedy programmes in the BBC iPlayer app and list those that I want listen to. Then every time I sit down to knit, on goes the iPad and in go the ear plugs. I’m re-discovering old classics like Tony Hancock and Jimmy Clitheroe (I have a vague memory of loving “The Clitheroe Kid” on TV when I was little). And although…

K Update

  • April 29, 2012 1:19 pm

Shhh! Don’t say anything out loud but K hasn’t had any prolonged bouts of abdominal pain for about 4 weeks now!

We’ve had periods like this before but nothing this long for about a year or so. He’s back at school full time and is even starting to ask if he can go to the odd after-school club.

Not A Good Day…

K has been really bad today. šŸ™ The pain is so severe that he can’t even walk slowly across a room without help and he is constantly tired. Even going out in the wheelchair isn’t an option as the slightest bump or uneven piece of ground causes yet more pain.

What I’m Working On…

I’ve got 3 projects on the go at the moment: Navy Blue Cabled Cardigan Developing my own pattern for this. Currently about half-way through the first (left) side. So far, so good. Branching Out Scarf Like I really need another scarf! But I love this pattern. The last time I made it, I used a Kaffe Fasser cream silk/kid mohair mix. The final scarf looked wonderful but I couldn’t bear it against my skin for more than 5 minutes. So it ended up being sent to a charity shop (hey — you try frogging mohair!). Then I came across 90gm…

What Is it With Schools?

  • November 14, 2011 11:09 pm

I’m not convinced that K’s school understand how terribly debilitating his pain is. And — given that this is a school that is supposed to specialise in supporting children with physical disabilities — they aren’t being as supportive as I hoped they might be.

The Holiday

  • September 6, 2011 3:10 pm

Yes – this blog has been neglected. I really need to establish a regular blogging routine… Busy summer, though — punctuated by a week in France which was really nice. We went over for my niece’s 21st birthday (my brother lives in Azincourt which is about halfway between Calais and Arras) and stayed in the rural town of Hesdin. As luck would have it, we were there for the town’s annual fete which lasted all week and ended with a spectacular show in the town square on the last night.

Update

  • July 13, 2011 11:24 am

It’s been a busy few weeks. K is still off school (and has been since the beginning of June) with daily severe pain and only the occasional pain free couple of hours. We’ve made a number attempts to get him back to school but each one has failed when he has been really unwell first thing in the morning. It’s incredibly frustrating and depressing for everyone when this happens again & again, so we’re pretty close to giving up entirely and focusing on getting him ready for the move to secondary school in September.

A New Nintendo Forum

  • June 30, 2011 7:13 pm

K has started his own forum for Nintendo DS & Wii gaming fans. It has boards for technical difficulties, glitches & game discussion. Once a week, there will be a Game of the Week for Wii & for DS. There will also be help & support for in-game problems (or so I’m told).

So if you’re a Nintendo Wii or DS fan, pop over to Nintendo Gaming 4U.
