Candles and More Candles

I managed to make some candles today. The first batch I’ve made in ages (the candlemaking session I ran at the Discworld Con doesn’t count).
One pudding candle, four votives, four rolled beeswax votives and 9 beeswax tealights. That should keep me going for a little while given that I’ll be using more candles now that the nights are drawing in.
The only slight fly in the ointment is that there’s something wrong with my last lot of beeswax votives (made about 2 months ago). They won’t burn properly and keep going out. Maybe the wax was dirty? Or I’ve accidentally used the wrong wick (ie too small)? Ultimately, though, I have no idea.
I’m thinking of of trying to find out whether the zinc cored wick sold by Thornes is suitable for beeswax (ie square braided). Pre-preparing waxed wick is a pain in the proverbial.
