Dressing Off

  • May 5, 2007 10:33 pm

Big day today. K’s dressing had to come off. Then it was into the bath to try and soak off the butterfly stitches.

I ended up removing four butterfly stitches from the main puncture wound and, so far, it looks like he’s healing well. Still some claw marks and bruising and he’ll need to be careful of his back for a while longer in case he re-opens the puncture (which is very deep) but, all in all, a lot better than I expected.

His behaviour is calming down a bit too. He’s calmer and less likely to either burst into tears or fly off the handle at the slightest thing.

I’ve not been so lucky today. After two fairly good days, I woke up in a lot of pain this morning and felt pretty weepy all day. Ah well – better out than in.

Dog Update

  • May 4, 2007 10:25 pm

It would seem that the dog’s owner decided to have his (rather aggressive) dog destroyed in the last day or so. The second dog is to to be taken to obedience classes. Although this is apparently a much gentler animal, the owner (quite rightly, in my opinion) isn’t prepared to take any chances. Mind you, this whole awful thing could have been avoided had he trained both dogs from an early age.

As it stands, there is no point in taking the case forward to the courts as the outcome of any police action would have been to deal with the dog. There is a possibility that the owner could have been fined too but I think that should wait until we decide whether we want to take civil action.

At least, K can now play out in his own street without fear.

Bad Day

  • May 2, 2007 10:38 pm

I’ve been ill all day. I can only assume it’s all of the trauma from Sunday finally coming out.

Typical of me. Great in a crisis but when it’s finally over, I go to pieces completely. I only wish I could manage this kind of control at other times. It could come in rather handy.

Dog Attack

  • May 1, 2007 10:24 pm

At 1:30pm on on Sunday, K (aged 7) asked if he could go out and play in the street. As it was sunny and quiet, we said OK. So he ran off up the road to call for his friends. On the way up the street, he passed a woman sitting on the front step of her house whilst behind her, in the open doorway, were 2 German Shepherd dogs. As K ran past, one of the dogs got past her, jumped the gate and attacked him. K tried to run away and either fell or was knocked over by the dog who held him down and bit his back.
