Flower Clips

I recently bought some hair clips to try and keep my rather unruly curls out of my face with the idea of adding crochet flowers to each of them. There are lots of patterns for sweet little crocheted flowers out there but not much on actually attaching the flower to the clip. Glue seemed messy (and knowing my luck, unlikely to be a permanent solution). I did find a pattern for creating a crocheted “clip hat” but was both fiddly and a little too bulky for my taste.
The Dreaded Lurgy
It’s been a pretty rough 8 or 9 days here. First K developed a tickly cough followed — 48 hours later — by a temperature and nausea. By this time, I had a thundering headache which simply refused to go away. That’s when it dawned on me that we both might have flu!
I Have Another Teenager
Yesterday was K’s 13th birthday, so I now have another one of these…
PE Lessons are now Banned

K has been doing really well since returning to school at the start of September. So much so that many people thought his pain had vanished. Oh — if only! What had happened was a combination of the pain (both back & stomach) dropping to a tolerable level and K finally “owning” or accepting it as part of his life for now. He also started physiotherapy at the local hospital at the end of August (to help him lengthen his badly shortened ham strings) — attending every few weeks with a routine of exercise to perform three times a day.…
Plaid Scarf

This is actually a pseudo-plaid that is incredibly easy to create. You just crochet horizontal stripes until you have the length you want. Then you weave triple strands of yarn vertically between the double crochet stitches — leaving enough at either end to form a fringe. I adapted the stripe pattern from a Scottish plaid for this but you might want to chose a different stripe pattern.
And It’s Back

The “pain holiday” is over 🙁 After about 9 or 10 weeks with very little bad stomach pain, it started to creep back in. First, it was just for an hour or so in the evening. Then it started to take over the whole evening. Finally, K was back to waking up with bad pain some mornings and missing school on the really bad days.
Re-discovering Radio

I’m becoming a big fan of BBC Radio 4 Extra — although why they renamed it from Radio 7, I don’t know. Every Saturday morning whilst drinking my first cup of coffee, I browse through all of the available comedy programmes in the BBC iPlayer app and list those that I want listen to. Then every time I sit down to knit, on goes the iPad and in go the ear plugs. I’m re-discovering old classics like Tony Hancock and Jimmy Clitheroe (I have a vague memory of loving “The Clitheroe Kid” on TV when I was little). And although…
Starting Christmas Early

I seem to be uber-organised at the moment. I’m knitting Christmas presents already! At least it gives me something to do at weekends whilst it’s raining all day and I’m listening to comedy shows on the radio. Since I don’t want to spoil any surprises, I can’t really say what I’m making but at least I can show off the yarn I’m using. The first is a wonderful soft double knitting yarn in a lovely shade of blue-green. I’ve completed the first part of the gift and I’m now onto the second part. The second yarn is a multi-coloured chunky…
WordPress 3.4 & iOS5
Well, I can’t see a great deal that’s new in WordPress 3.4 for the iPad. The Add Media tab does now have an From Computer pane but, for time being, it just includes a link to the mobile apps page.
