Back To School
The next school term started today and K was back in class!
K’s Tummy Pain
Last October, K had appendicitis. A real Sunday morning 5am ambulance thing. Thankfully nothing ruptured, the surgery was straightforward, the hospital great and he was back home again after a few days.
He’d recovered enough for us to spend a few days in Ireland in early November and was back at school shortly afterwards. But, in late November, he began complaining of stomach pain across his lower abdomen. Thinking that this was a combination of post-surgery healing, perhaps some pulled muscles and maybe a little bit of attention-seeking, we kept telling him that we’d review the situation after Christmas.
More Socks

K has has a sudden growth spurt, so a few of the socks that I’d made for him previously no longer fitted. So there was a mad dash to get some sock yarn and make him a new pair (with growing room) for winter. Especially as he doesn’t like wearing slippers and much prefers to wander round the house in stocking feet. These were made using King Cole’s Zigzag sock yarn. I’ve not tried this before but it’s not bad. It’s 50% wool and 50% acrylic, so I’m not sure I’d use it to make socks for myself but for…
D-Day
Tooth Extraction – Take 2.
Or not, as the case may be…
Turns out that the infection is still lurking, so all thoughts of removing the root today were immediately abandoned. Onto Plan B which involves me taking yet another course of antibiotics but timed so that the course is almost complete by my next appointment (October 9th). The hope is that the little b****r will have been sufficiently nuked at that point that the local anaesthetic will actually work.
Yes, folks. This saga just runs and runs…
In the meantime, I’m currently trying to avoid saying any word that begins with ‘f’ (and that sure cuts into my stress relief strategies) as the pronunciation of ‘f’ seems to be inexorably linked with the presence of two front teeth. Smiling broadly is also a “No-no” along with laughing unless the mouth is covered. On the plus side, I do currently have a whistle that would put a navvy to shame…
An Unhappy Bunny With A Sore Mouth
Went to get the tooth remnant out today. Slight problem. Unbeknownst to everyone, there was an infection around the root which stopped the local working right where it was really needed. Unfortunately, that wasn’t obvious until the dentist tried to take the tooth out. Suffice to say that I still have said tooth (albeit in a slightly different position now) and I’m on antibiotics for a week. Spent most of today zonked out on painkillers and homoeopathy for shock. 🙁
Next attempt: September 25th
Ith Not Funny!
My broken crown can’t be fixed! It seems that part of the root broke away with the metal post and there’s not enough left to attach anything. 🙁
I have to get the root removed (ouch!), wear a denture for 6 months and then get a bridge fitted. So I’m stuck with this lithp and a distinct disinclination to smile at anyone for the next few weeks at least. I am not a happy bunny.
I Have A Brain!
Yes. It’s official. I do have a brain. I must have because it was scanned earlier today and I imagine that a large empty space would have attracted some immediate comment.
It all started when I had my normal rheumo appointment. R suggested that I mention the weird memory lapses I have occasionally. At least he thinks they’re weird. As far as I’m concerned, the things he claims I’ve forgotten simply never happened. Normally, when you forget something like a film you’ve seen or a place you’ve visited, there’s a little tickle at the back opf your mind that says “Oh yes – you do have a memory of this somewhere in here. You just can’t locate it right at this moment”. That tickle is actually tremendously reassuring – even if you’re not fully aware of it.
Just My Luck…
My dentist is on holiday, so I have to call again on Monday in the hopes that I can get an appointment with the dentist that is covering his practice over the next 10 days or so. A whole weekend without one of my top front teeth!
Argh!
My front tooth fell out! Well, not the tooth itself but the crown. Late last night.
It was quite undramatic. It just literally fell out without a murmur. And I only saw the dentist about 4 weeks ago too. Guess I’ll be seeing him again very shortly.
July Already?
Long time no post.
The problem is that I’ve been way too busy – even though, if asked, I’d say that work has been quiet generally.
