What Is it With Schools?
I’m not convinced that K’s school understand how terribly debilitating his pain is. And — given that this is a school that is supposed to specialise in supporting children with physical disabilities — they aren’t being as supportive as I hoped they might be.
The Big Denim Project: The Results

Sewed the snaps onto the denim bag yesterday afternoon, so I now declare The Big Denim Project finished! Skirt 1 is the one I widened by adding inserts into the side seams. Skirt 2 was fine “as made”. The bag is trimmed and lined with fabric left over from Skirt 1. I still have about 1 yard of that fabric left, and since it is absolutely gorgeous, I’ll just have to think of something to do with it.
The Big Denim Project

I recently found myself in possession of three pairs of perfectly good jeans (2 adult / 1 child) that had all been outgrown by their respective owners. Having done the whole “denim rag rug thing” earlier in the year, I decided that I could do without sore hands for the next few weeks and started to look around for other possibilities.
The Holiday

Yes – this blog has been neglected. I really need to establish a regular blogging routine… Busy summer, though — punctuated by a week in France which was really nice. We went over for my niece’s 21st birthday (my brother lives in Azincourt which is about halfway between Calais and Arras) and stayed in the rural town of Hesdin. As luck would have it, we were there for the town’s annual fete which lasted all week and ended with a spectacular show in the town square on the last night.
Update
It’s been a busy few weeks. K is still off school (and has been since the beginning of June) with daily severe pain and only the occasional pain free couple of hours. We’ve made a number attempts to get him back to school but each one has failed when he has been really unwell first thing in the morning. It’s incredibly frustrating and depressing for everyone when this happens again & again, so we’re pretty close to giving up entirely and focusing on getting him ready for the move to secondary school in September.
A New Nintendo Forum
K has started his own forum for Nintendo DS & Wii gaming fans. It has boards for technical difficulties, glitches & game discussion. Once a week, there will be a Game of the Week for Wii & for DS. There will also be help & support for in-game problems (or so I’m told).
So if you’re a Nintendo Wii or DS fan, pop over to Nintendo Gaming 4U.
F.A.D.
K’s pain consultant has now decided that he may not have nerve damage (as the pain meds have had little real effect) but may be suffering from Functional Abdominal Disorder (FAD).
K Update
K has been improving steadily since Christmas. We haven’t had to use the wheelchair for weeks and he’s even walking to & from school by himself. Yay!
A Miserable Monday
It’s cold and raining here. A typical UK November day.
Not So Good
K hasn’t had a good week at all 🙁
Having done so very well with the new patches since the end of August, he suddenly had a relapse this week. 9 – 10 hours of pain every day. Needless to say, he didn’t go to school all week, so I had the weird experience of going to the (standard) parent-teacher meeting this term when he wasn’t even in school.
