F.A.D.

  • April 4, 2011 9:48 pm

K’s pain consultant has now decided that he may not have nerve damage (as the pain meds have had little real effect) but may be suffering from Functional Abdominal Disorder (FAD).

K Update

  • February 4, 2011 9:24 pm

K has been improving steadily since Christmas. We haven’t had to use the wheelchair for weeks and he’s even walking to & from school by himself. Yay!

Tooth Extraction – Take 2.

Or not, as the case may be…

Turns out that the infection is still lurking, so all thoughts of removing the root today were immediately abandoned. Onto Plan B which involves me taking yet another course of antibiotics but timed so that the course is almost complete by my next appointment (October 9th). The hope is that the little b****r will have been sufficiently nuked at that point that the local anaesthetic will actually work.

Yes, folks. This saga just runs and runs…

In the meantime, I’m currently trying to avoid saying any word that begins with ‘f’ (and that sure cuts into my stress relief strategies) as the pronunciation of ‘f’ seems to be inexorably linked with the presence of two front teeth. Smiling broadly is also a “No-no” along with laughing unless the mouth is covered. On the plus side, I do currently have a whistle that would put a navvy to shame…

An Unhappy Bunny With A Sore Mouth

  • September 5, 2007 8:10 pm

Went to get the tooth remnant out today. Slight problem. Unbeknownst to everyone, there was an infection around the root which stopped the local working right where it was really needed. Unfortunately, that wasn’t obvious until the dentist tried to take the tooth out. Suffice to say that I still have said tooth (albeit in a slightly different position now) and I’m on antibiotics for a week. Spent most of today zonked out on painkillers and homoeopathy for shock. 🙁

Next attempt: September 25th

Ith Not Funny!

  • August 20, 2007 11:42 am

My broken crown can’t be fixed! It seems that part of the root broke away with the metal post and there’s not enough left to attach anything. 🙁

I have to get the root removed (ouch!), wear a denture for 6 months and then get a bridge fitted. So I’m stuck with this lithp and a distinct disinclination to smile at anyone for the next few weeks at least. I am not a happy bunny.

Just My Luck…

  • August 17, 2007 11:20 am

My dentist is on holiday, so I have to call again on Monday in the hopes that I can get an appointment with the dentist that is covering his practice over the next 10 days or so. A whole weekend without one of my top front teeth!

Argh!

  • August 16, 2007 2:16 pm

My front tooth fell out! Well, not the tooth itself but the crown. Late last night.

It was quite undramatic. It just literally fell out without a murmur. And I only saw the dentist about 4 weeks ago too. Guess I’ll be seeing him again very shortly.

July Already?

Long time no post.

The problem is that I’ve been way too busy – even though, if asked, I’d say that work has been quiet generally.

Dressing Off

  • May 5, 2007 10:33 pm

Big day today. K’s dressing had to come off. Then it was into the bath to try and soak off the butterfly stitches.

I ended up removing four butterfly stitches from the main puncture wound and, so far, it looks like he’s healing well. Still some claw marks and bruising and he’ll need to be careful of his back for a while longer in case he re-opens the puncture (which is very deep) but, all in all, a lot better than I expected.

His behaviour is calming down a bit too. He’s calmer and less likely to either burst into tears or fly off the handle at the slightest thing.

I’ve not been so lucky today. After two fairly good days, I woke up in a lot of pain this morning and felt pretty weepy all day. Ah well – better out than in.

Dog Update

  • May 4, 2007 10:25 pm

It would seem that the dog’s owner decided to have his (rather aggressive) dog destroyed in the last day or so. The second dog is to to be taken to obedience classes. Although this is apparently a much gentler animal, the owner (quite rightly, in my opinion) isn’t prepared to take any chances. Mind you, this whole awful thing could have been avoided had he trained both dogs from an early age.

As it stands, there is no point in taking the case forward to the courts as the outcome of any police action would have been to deal with the dog. There is a possibility that the owner could have been fined too but I think that should wait until we decide whether we want to take civil action.

At least, K can now play out in his own street without fear.
